Lung Cancer Treatment with CIMAvax-EGF®

Overview

Lung cancer is one of the most common and serious types of cancer worldwide. La Pradera offers treatment with CIMAvax-EGF®, the world's first therapeutic vaccine for non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC), developed by Cuba's Center of Molecular Immunology (CIM). Unlike preventive vaccines, CIMAvax-EGF® stimulates the patient's immune system to produce antibodies against epidermal growth factor (EGF), depriving cancer cells of the protein they need to multiply and grow.

Who Can Benefit

Adults diagnosed with stage IIIB or IV non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) who have completed or are completing first-line oncology treatment (chemotherapy or radiotherapy). The vaccine is used as maintenance therapy to help control tumor growth and extend survival.

Procedure

After eligibility assessment, patients receive a series of intramuscular injections of CIMAvax-EGF® over a structured treatment protocol. The regimen begins with an induction phase of 5 doses in the first month, followed by monthly maintenance injections. Treatment is administered under continuous medical supervision with regular imaging and blood work to monitor response.

Advantages

  • Stimulates the body's own immune system to target cancer cells
  • Low toxicity profile compared to conventional chemotherapy
  • Outpatient administration — no hospitalization required for each dose
  • Improves quality of life during maintenance phase
  • Developed by Cuba's Center of Molecular Immunology with over a decade of clinical use

Contraindications

Not suitable for patients with small-cell lung cancer (SCLC), pregnant or breastfeeding women, patients with active autoimmune diseases, or those with severe uncontrolled medical conditions. A full medical evaluation determines eligibility.

Expected Results

Clinical studies indicate that CIMAvax-EGF® can slow disease progression and improve survival in eligible patients, particularly those with high EGF levels. Results vary by individual; the medical team provides a personalized prognosis after reviewing each case.
