How Heberprot-P Is Saving Limbs: 15 Years of Diabetic Foot Ulcer Treatment

Diabetic foot ulcers affect up to one quarter of diabetics during their lifetime. These open sores, caused by nerve damage and decreased blood flow, can worsen and ultimately require amputation.

Cuba's answer to this global crisis is Heberprot-P, a biological product based on Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF) that stimulates cell growth and multiplication. The treatment reverses foot deterioration caused by diabetes, saving patients' legs from amputation.

Since its introduction in 2007, Heberprot-P has been used to treat over 80,000 patients across more than 20 countries. Clinical data shows it can heal more than 85% of complicated cases that previously had no solution other than amputation.

The treatment is administered through intralesional injections directly into the wound, typically over a course of several weeks. Patients who once faced the prospect of losing a limb have seen remarkable recoveries within weeks of starting treatment.

La Pradera International Health Center offers comprehensive diabetic foot treatment programs that include Heberprot-P therapy, specialized wound care, and personalized rehabilitation plans.
